Christmas on the Northshore

Christmas is my favorite time of year! If you are looking for some fun & festive things to do with your family this holiday season, we’ve got you covered. Here is a complete list of events happening on the Northshore this month.

December 3rd

Christmas Movie: A Christmas Story 2. 5PM. Loranger Branch of the Tangi Library. Rated PG.

December 4th

30th Annual Christmas Extravaganza. 10AM-4PM. St. Tammany Parish Fair Grounds. Featuring more than 500 artists from the multi-state area. $5 for adults. Children 12 and under are free.

Christmas Under the Stars. 5-9PM. Griffith Park, Olde Towne Slidell. This event features visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, festive music, a life-size Christmas Village, Slidell’s Nativity, the Parade of Trees, plus more holiday surprises for kids of all ages. Admission is free.

16th Annual Holiday of Lights. 6-8:30PM. Trailhead on Koop Drive. Visitors can stroll amid the wonderland of sparkling Christmas trees, lights and displays, while singing along with Christmas carolers and other local entertainers over four nights of entertainment. Plus, visit with Santa and ride the kiddie rides. FREE for drivers and walkers. $1 Admission to the Kids Town Pavilion.

Polar Express Storytime. 7PM. Barnes and Noble, Mandeville. In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the beloved classic The Polar Express, join us for a pajama Storytime. Our friends from Love on a Leash will be here to join in the fun. Stay for cocoa and cookies afterward.

Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Yuletide Concert. 7:30PM. Columbia Theater. Beethoven and Blue Jeans. Get into the spirit of the holiday season with the LPO’s annual Yuletide Celebration, featuring seasonal musical favorites perfect for the entire family. Conductor Robert Bernhardt leads the festivities, complete with performances by local school choirs and sing-alongs! Purchase tickets here.

December 5th

Old Towne Slidell Christmas Market. 10AM-5PM. First Street. The market offers great gift ideas, art, crafts, collectibles and gift wrapping services. Enjoy great food and live entertainment.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas Storytime. 11AM. Join us for coloring and activities as we celebrate all things Grinch with a special event featuring How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

Merry Madisonville Parade. 4PM. Merry Madisonville is kicked off with a grand parade through town!  The Parade starts at the Maritime Museum and winds through town and ends on the Riverfront in front of Town Hall. The Parade is led by Mayor Peter Gitz who is followed by the Court of the Krewe of Tchefuncte, bands, dancers, classic cars and more!  The Parade makes one stop on the way for a Champagne toast and then continues on to Town Hall to await the arrival of Santa!

Deck the Rails. 4-7:30PM. Covington Trailhead. Kids event.

56th Annual Rotary Club of Hammond Christmas Parade. 5PM This year’s theme is “A Patriotic Christmas.” See information about the route and how to participate in the parade on the Rotary’s website.

Christmas at Terra Bella. 3-6PM. Join our community as we celebrate the spirit of the season and experience the magic of Christmas. Enjoy live holiday music from local talent, hot chocolate, Christmas crafts, write letters to Santa, and ride the TerraBella Express. Special appearance from Santa Clause to greet and consult with children about their wish lists. Complimentary and festive holiday event all children are sure to love.

December 8th, 2015

Family Holiday Night. 6-8PM. Folsom Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. All ages are welcome. We’ll read holiday books, make Christmas ornaments and enjoy hot chocolate and popcorn. No registration required. Please call the branch for details. Please inform the librarian of any food allergies at least one week in advance. We are happy to make accommodations for you.

December 10th, 2015

Visit with Santa. 10:30AM. Lee Road Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. Hear a favorite holiday classic book and then visit with Santa. Bring your camera! No registration is required. Candy canes will be served.

Crafternoon. 4-5:30PM. Slidell Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. Children ages 5-11 can stop by anytime between 4:00-6:00 to make a holiday ornament. No registration required. No food will be served.

Tween Holiday Craft. 4-5PM. Lacombe Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. Tweens ages 10-14 can make a painted glass soap dispenser along with holiday cards and gift tags. We will also enjoy hot chocolate and popcorn.

Crafternoon. 4-6PM. Covington Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library. Design your own wrapping paper! Drop in anytime between 4 and 6. All ages are invited and no RSVP is required. No food will be served or used.

Christmas Movie: Arthur Christmas. 5PM. Independence Branch of the Tangi Library. Rated PG.

December 11th

Christmas Movie: Prep & Landing and Naughty vs. Nice. 5PM. Kentwood Branch of the Tangi Library.

Christmas Under the Stars. 5-9PM. Griffith Park, Olde Towne Slidell. This event features visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, festive music, a life-size Christmas Village, Slidell’s Nativity, the Parade of Trees, plus more holiday surprises for kids of all ages. Admission is free.

Sips of the Season. 5-8PM. The Sips of the Season beverage stroll requires purchase of a souvenir mug available in advance for $12 at Das Schulerhaus Gift Gallery and Christmas Boutique, 611 Girod St., Varsity Sports, 2021 Claiborne St., and K. Gee’s Restaurant, 2534 Florida St. Stroll participants will receive a beverage sample at the 19 participating stops. Every year, we sell out of mugs prior to the event, so be sure to purchase your mugs early to ensure that you are able to participate!

December 12th

Christmas Past Festival in Old Mandeville. 9AM-4PM. Historic Mandeville. The festival offers an old-time holiday theme, arts and crafts, food and beverage booths (over 40), bands, and strolling caroling groups. Each block represents a different country. Waiting Isn’t Easy Storytime. 11AM. Barnes and Noble, Mandeville. Gerald and Piggie and are best friends. In Waiting is Not Easy!, Piggie has a surprise for Gerald, but he is going to have to wait for it. And wait some more. In the holiday season all children will connect with Gerald! Activities to follow.

Folsom Horse and Wagon Parade. Noon. Theme is “Christmas in the Country.” Exact route is TBA. We will update as soon as that information is available.

Santa Claus Visit. 1-4PM. Baby’s Corner, Covington. Santa Claus comes to the store for pictures with the kids. We’ll also have goodies for the kids and discounts for the adults!

Santa Claus Visit. 1-2:30PM. Oil and Vinegar, Covington.

Winter on the Water. 4-7PM. At 4:00 The Annual Winter on the Water (WOW) will begin on the Mandeville Lakefront. Santa’s parade starts at 4:00 on Lakeshore drive at the harbor and ends at the Gazebo. Mayor Donald Villere will arrive at the gazebo along with Santa to light the oaks at approximately 5:15. We will conclude the event with the annual boat parade.  Admission is free and open to the public. Remember to bring cameras for pictures with Santa.

December 16th

Visits with Santa Claus. 10:30AM. Slidell Branch of the Library. Hear a favorite holiday classic book and then visit with Santa. Bring your camera! No registration is required. Candy canes will be served.

Teen Holiday Event. 4:30-5:30PM. Pearl River Branch of the Library. We’re supplying the crafts, hot cocoa, and holiday cheer! Online Registration Required. Limit 12 teens ages 12 – 18, only please.

Handy Holiday Crafts. 4:30-5:30PM. Abita Springs Branch of St. Tammany Parish Library. We will read some holiday stories and make some crafts. No registration required. All ages invited. No food will be served.

Christmas Movie: The Muppet Christmas Carol. 6PM. Hammond Branch of the Tangi Library.

December 17th

Visit with Mrs. Claus. 10:30AM. Pearl River Branch of the Library. Hear a favorite holiday classic book and then visit with Mrs. Claus. Bring your camera! No registration is required. Candy canes will be served.
